Courtney,
Bike & Build volunteer - New Jersey
"As many images as you can see of what happened here, standing
on a street and realizing that street after street, and block after
block, and neighbourhood after neighbourhood, there’s just
nobody here... I didn’t necessarily expect that all these
people were just still not coming back and may never be able to."
Ethelena, resident
"I’ve lost so many friends, I’ve lost relatives.
My nephew is dead on Tulip Street, instead of tagging him, they
just put him aside like an animal... It wasn’t the hurricane,
it was the levees, it wasn’t the hurricane. They said they
heard a big 'boom' and the water just rushed, killed a lot of people.
Killed so many people."
Laura, Bike & Build volunteer - Virginia
"It’s just sad to see a huge initial response to the
hurricane. And then just a year and a half later, there’s
still so much to be done, but people aren’t responding in
the same way because they think New Orleans is back."
Still Lives also features the voices
of Gregory and Gordon, two New Orleans residents, as well as volunteers
Chris, Adam and Matt.
