Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Anna Sarkissian is a documentary filmmaker and writer. Her films have been shown at film festivals, galleries, the Canadian Parliament and on national television. Her projects have taken her as far afoot as Mexico, Armenia, Qatar, China, Barbados, and India, where her most recent collaboration is set. Since 2006, she and Ameesha Joshi have been been shooting a film about the Indian women's national boxing team, called With This Ring. Her work has focused on issues ranging from indigenous rights and sustainability to gender and identity. Her articles and photographs have been published in over 25 independent publications. She graduated from the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema at Concordia University in 2005 with a bachelor of fine arts. She is currently based in Oxford, England, where she is completing her master's in social anthropology. |
